Interminable (2007)
My work features the words “I was waiting’ to explore the experience of hope and patient anticipation. The process of using a single needle to pierce 250,000 individual holes into the paper emphasises the intensity of the emotion whilst the repetitive use of the words highlights the passing of time. I am fascinated by the quest for the meaning of life, the way in which people live their lives, and the rules they follow in an attempt to achieve an elusive inner peace. Some people spend their whole lives waiting for the ‘something more that there must be’, the something they failed to discover within their life. I invite the viewer to reflect on their own life; to contemplate what they have been waiting for; to consider whether the time has come for changes to be made possible.
