Interminable 2007 - (spheres)
The viewer enters the installation with a caving torch on their head, into a darkened room. Across the floor are 120 small spheres that glow and reflect as the light of the torch moves across them. Scanning across the room it is possible to make out the words ‘I was waiting’ inside the spheres. As the viewer moves so too does the text in the sphere. On closer inspection the viewer discovers that the text is not in the sphere at all, but covering the floor are line after line of the words ‘I was waiting’ in a font so tiny it can only be seen when magnified through the spheres.
The work represents all the moments of our lives spent in a state of limbo; many of them moments so short they are insignificant and almost unnoticed, but some we become so acutely aware of that they dominate our minds and become the focus of our attention.
